Landscape Design

This service is for customers who want large landscapes or entire property design.

Features

At Meador's Garden Center & Landscaping, our designers and crews are capable of implementing a wide variety of landscape features, including:
  • Decks
  • Drainage
  • Irrigation
  • Lawns
  • Outdoor kitchens
  • Pathways
  • Patios
  • Pergolas
  • Plant beds
  • Raised beds
  • Retaining walls
  • Trees
  • Water features
During the initial one-hour, on-site consultation, one of our designers will sit down with you, discuss what you envision for your property and then draw up a design based on your ideas and budget.

Installation

After our designer presents you with a design and an estimate, you will have the option to either pay for the plan and complete the installation yourself or use our experienced landscaping crews to install the design.

Timeline

The first step is to schedule a consultation at your home with one of our designers. Call to make an appointment with one of our associates. After the initial consultation, it will take around two weeks for us to complete a design and an estimate. If you like the plan and decide to go with us for the installation, then we will begin sometime after that.

Much of our ability to schedule is dependent on seasonal and weather conditions so it is best to ask an associate for more information.

Cost

Our designs vary in price depending on the scope of the project, so feel free to talk to an associate for questions about cost.

On-Site Consultations

One of our designers will come out to your home for a one-hour consultation that may be used to acquire advice, receive recommendations, identify existing plants, and in some cases, serve as the first step for our designers in developing a landscape design.

Consultation fees vary, so please call for pricing details.

Planting Services

We provide planting services apart from our landscape design and installation. Call us or come in for more information.

Tree Planting

Planting trees is big business here at Meador's Garden Center & Landscaping, especially during the fall and winter.

We’ve been doing this for a long time, so we are experienced at planting trees in the sometimes unsavory soil conditions here in North Texas. Follow our care instructions and trees planted by us will include a one-year warranty. We want to help you keep your tree alive, so we encourage you to read the document carefully and call us if you have any questions.

If you’d like to try your hand at planting your own tree(s), we have some tips and tricks for you here.

Pricing

Our tree planting services include the costs of:
  • Tree(s)
  • Labor
  • Delivery (flat fee)
Most of our trees have tags with two prices listed. The top price is just for the tree itself and the bottom price is the cost of the tree plus labor.

The price for delivery depends on the city/community where the tree is being planted. The delivery cost is a flat fee, so if you were to buy two trees, you would only pay for delivery once.

Timeline

Once you have bought a tree from us, we work on planting it for you as efficiently as possible. This efficiency depends greatly on the season and how many trees we have recently sold.

The best time to plant trees in North Texas is in the fall and winter. We stop planting trees during the months of June through September because the heat of the summer puts newly planted trees through too much stress. However, we will happily care for sold trees for you during the summer to plant in the fall.

We plant trees on Saturdays. After you have bought a tree from us, we will put you in a queue and call you the Monday or Tuesday before the Saturday we plan to come out and plant, to confirm the date with you. It will usually be between one and three Saturdays following your tree’s purchase, depending on the season.

Warranty and Care Instructions

The following is the warranty information that you receive when paying for your tree(s):

Warranty Terms

All trees planted by Meador Nursery shall be warrantied for one year beginning upon completion of the installation. We do not guarantee tree performance including dieback.

Tree replacement will be at no charge if Meador Nursery is notified of a problem as soon as it arises. Call us at 940-382-2638 at the first sign of any issue so we are able to assess and correct any problems. Failure to do so will void the warranty.

Our warranty will not apply when a tree dies from an act of Mother Nature (i.e. fire, freezes, ice storms, high winds, drought, insects, diseases, hail, theft or water rationing).

The warranty will be voided if soil and/or plants are placed on top of the root ball during the first year or if tree is not watered properly. See Tree Watering and Care below.

Any tree eligible for replacement shall be removed and replaced with a tree of equal or lesser value as soon as the season permits. The first replacement is at no cost. The second replacement will be at half the cost. Any additional costs or extenuating circumstances in relation to the tree planting or replacement will be the responsibility of the owner.

Tree Watering and Care

The owner assumes maintenance of the tree upon completion of the installation. These instructions MUST be carefully followed to keep from voiding the warranty of the tree.

The root system will take about 18 months to several years to re-establish itself into the surrounding ground. During this time, care must be concentrated on keeping the root ball moist at all times but not in standing water.

Each soil type drains differently. Some soils hold water while others drain more quickly. Standing water will kill a tree by keeping the roots from absorbing oxygen. On the other hand, letting the root ball dry out will distress the tree, making it susceptible to further issues including the death of the tree.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding the care of your new tree, don’t hesitate to call us at 940-382-2638.

WATERING
Recommended method of watering is to soak directly on top of the root ball. To best water your new tree, pull your hose to the base of the trunk and allow a slow trickle. The following sections will address how often to water and how long each time.

How often?
First 18 months
60 degrees - once every 2 weeks
70 degrees – once every 10 days
80 degrees - once every 7 days
90 degrees and above- twice every 7 days

How long?
With your hose at a slow trickle:
• 7 gal: 10-15 minutes
• 10-15 gal: 15-30 minutes
• 30-45 gal: 30 minutes-1 hour
• 3 inch (and larger): 1.5 hours

One inch of rainfall (no less) will replace one watering.

SPRINKLERS
We ask that you DO NOT rely on a sprinkler system to water your newly planted tree unless you are using a bubbler attachment. A sprinkler system only soaks the top inch of the ground and is NOT enough to reach the root zone which is typically 18” to 24” inches below the surface. For this reason, you must follow the watering schedule and technique detailed above. Failure to water sufficiently will VOID the warranty.

FERTILIZER
Do not fertilize the tree during the first year unless you are using a root stimulator. Most other fertilizers will encourage top growth, whereas a root stimulator will support the necessary root development. After the first year, apply fertilizer only during the growing season according to directions.

Wish List

Our wish list is a courtesy that we provide for customers who desire a plant or product that we don’t currently have in stock. Our customers love this service!
If you’d like to get on our wish list, we will need the following:
  • Your name
  • Your phone number
  • Name of plant or product that you are interested in
  • Quantity
  • Size (being flexible will increase the chances we will find what you are looking for)
Any of our associates can add you to our wish list. Call or come in to see about getting on it.

Note:
Sometimes we will not be able to find what you are looking for. We do our best, but at certain times of the year we are so busy that we are unable to stay current with the wish list. Calling us periodically is a good way to ensure your item doesn’t fall through the cracks.

Bulk Soil, Mulch and River Rock

We use a dump trailer to deliver what we consider bulk Items.

This is a great option if you need a large amount of soil/mulch/etc. delivered or if you don’t have the means to transport.

There is a limit to how much our dump trailer can hold depending on the density of the load. The following is a list of how much our trailer can carry based on the material:

Compost - horse manure, alfalfa, wood shavings; nutrient-dense
  • 10 yards or less
Topsoil - sandy loam; used for filling
  • 5 yards or less
Compost/topsoil mix - recommended for planting
  • 6 yards or less
Mulch - used for regulating temperature and moisture levels in beds; prevents weeds
  • 10 yards or less
New Mexican river rock - colorful; used for drainage areas; use with landscaping fabric
  • 5 tons (approx.) or less
If you need more than what can be taken in one load you will have to pay another delivery charge.

Note:
  • We will deposit the loose materials at top most part of your driveway. We cannot deposit the soil/river rock/etc. on your lawn because we have to keep the trailer on concrete to avoid getting stuck or making ruts on your property.
  • We share our dump trailer with our landscaping crews. If you are in urgent need of your materials or need them by a specific time, please call ahead of time so we can ensure that our dump trailer is available.
